Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address

Follow

Applies To:

Zend Server

RPM based distro with SeLinux (Redhat, CentOS)

Apache Web Server

Symptom

After adding a vhost listening on custom port, Apache is not reachable anymore.

Starting Apache from Console gives error:

# zendctl.sh start-apache
Starting httpd: (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:444
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:444
no listening sockets available, shutting down

Note:
/usr/local/zend/bin in your system $PATH

Resolution

You can decide if you wish SeLinux to be configured to allow Apache to open custom port (check the reference), you can permanently disable SeLinux if this is a low security system in '/etc/selinux/config', or you can just disable SeLinux temporarily with 'setenforce 0' and start Apache with 'zendctl.sh start-apache' so you can get back to your tasks and decide on permanent solution later.
